EZ-CRETE’s Commitment to Sustainability: Leading the Way in Precast Concrete

At EZ-CRETE, we recognize that the precast concrete industry requires significant resources and energy, contributing to carbon emissions. However, sustainability is one of our core values, and we are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint while setting a new standard for eco-conscious precast concrete manufacturing.

Why Sustainability Matters in Precast Concrete

Concrete is one of the most widely used building materials in the world, but it comes with a high environmental cost. The production process generates carbon emissions, consumes large amounts of water, and requires substantial energy inputs. At EZ-CRETE, we understand that to build a more sustainable future, we must take proactive steps to reduce our impact and inspire industry-wide change.

Our Sustainability Initiatives

To date, we have implemented several sustainability-driven initiatives that actively reduce our carbon footprint and improve resource efficiency:

1. Water Reclamation & Recycling

We have introduced a water reclamation process to capture and recycle all water used during cleanup operations. This significantly reduces wastewater generation, conserves water, and ensures that excess materials are managed responsibly.

2. Solar Energy for Manufacturing

To offset our energy consumption, we partnered with Revision Energy to design a fixed, flush mounted, rooftop solar array. The array is 104.8 kW DC and comprised of (262) REC 400-watt solar panels, and (1) SolarEdge 80,000-watt inverter. The panels will be mounted to the east and west sides of the existing rooftop. The array will be connected to EZ-CRETE Eversource electricity meter and production will be net metered to directly replace 129% of EZ-CRETE’s annual usage. We’re currently scheduled to have this installed by Q3 of 2025. This investment allows us to harness renewable energy, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and decreasing our carbon emissions.

  1. Carbon Footprint Assessment with UNH

Understanding our environmental impact is key to improving it. We collaborated with the University of New Hampshire’s Climate Action Clinic to measure our carbon footprint using the SIMAP (Sustainability Indicator Management & Analysis Platform) tool.

  • Our preliminary carbon footprint assessment (April 2023 – March 2024) identified key emission drivers:
    • Stationary fuels (natural gas and propane)
    • Purchased electricity
  • We analyzed our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions to identify the most impactful areas for future reductions.
    • Total Carbon: 2,583 MTCDE

This baseline data empowers us to implement data-driven sustainability strategies and track our progress over time.

Next Steps: Driving Further Sustainability

Our sustainability efforts don’t stop here. Moving forward, we are committed to:

  • Exploring alternative low-carbon concrete formulations
  • Enhancing efficiency in material sourcing and transportation
  • Expanding our renewable energy capacity
  • Continuing to assess and reduce our carbon footprint

By taking these steps, EZ-CRETE is not just making precast concrete products—we’re shaping a more sustainable future for construction and infrastructure.
